A good all arounder is Inaros IMO. I don't know how easy he is to get from starting from the beginning though. If I had to pick on of the old school frames I would (and did) Pick Rhino to start.

I play all sorts of hours but you are getting on when I'm usually forcing myself to go to sleep because I gotta get up in the morning.

Inaros is a good stay-alive frame. He can only be gotten through (buying him with platinum, or) his quest which you buy from Baro for 100 Ducats and 25,000 credits, which isn't super difficult for a low level. The argon and Nitain needed to craft him though might be difficult for an MR 1-3 to get though. If you can get him later on though, I agree he's a solid frame
