For those of us sad that the Wii U's online service was terminated at the beginning of April 2024, there is a mod-free way to continue playing many blockbuster Wii U titles. The application is called Pretendo.
The Nintendo eccentric Youtube Channel, GameXplain, has uploaded the experience with the new service:
