Just thinking about what are the most common preferences in video games. I prefer gameplay and story. I mean, graphics make everything really cool, but I do prefer a good story with a funny gameplay.

For example, Last of us has an amazing story behind, and graphics are cool too. But, on the other hand, Hotline Miami has an exicting gameplay. I do know these examples are based in very different video games, but maybe it's all about types of game, isn't it?

Wanna know your options and video games.

that's a tough one... cause a game needs good gameplay to keep me playing so gameplay above story but a good story would keep me on a game with bad graphics even though graphics are what draws me to a lot off my new games. probs a longer answer than expected :p

I went with story, though there are amazing games that are just pure gameplay. (Super Mario World, etc.)

Tough choice!

I will go with Gameplay first, then story and last graphics. Bad gameplay will ruin any game for me, if it has a great story I may try to play through it, but typically bad gameplay will cause me to give up. Graphics are least important to me, granted I enjoy games with great graphics, but that will not cause me to give up on a game if the graphics aren't the best and also if a game has great graphics that alone is not enough to get me to play.

I voted for "story", but it's hard to play a game with a great story with horrible gameplay. Crinklepouch has a good point as well that games, such as Mario games, either never have a story or a crap story but they're generally fantastic.

So, if I could, I'd change my vote to gameplay.

I think most people would agree that game play and story are big sellers for games. If you look at the number of games that have come out from indie companies where the graphics are more retro but the game play and story are amazing, you can see that most gamers prefer game play and story.

One of the reasons i love gaming on PC, is with mods you can take a game that has a great story and great gameplay and give it better graphics. In fact i just did a couple of videos on youtube for Mass effect and Crysis, both were released years ago with great story, but had horrible controls(gamepad) and graphics left alot to be desired. However with some mods and tweaks on my end, both look and play amazing. But i would go with story, gameplay, graphics. Cause it's really hard to tell a good story without descent gameplay to back it up. Very few story games that i have played have had bad gameplay. The closest i could come is Deus Ex human revolution, great story, and gameplay was awkward, but didn't stop me from playing the game and enjoying it. Granted i like mankind divided way more cause it had better gameplay controls.

Depends what I'm playing. If I'm playing a multiplayer game, I want good gameplay. Without it, the game falls apart. If I'm playing a single player game, I need a good story to keep me going.

Eyecandy is an added bonus. At the risk of sounding like a snob, aren't graphics the reason we want new hardware? Why we watch e3 hoping to see a glimpse of a PS5 or Xbox 2? If it was solely story and gameplay we would all still be playing on PS2s or PCs with integrated graphics cards. What would be the point of upgrading to RTX 2080 ti's? Why buy a PS4 Pro or XB1X? When the term PC Master Race is thrown around, isn't it because they can play on Ultra, 4K, 6 zillion frames a second?

This was really tricky one but went for gameplay because i think its performance that makes or breaks a game for me. If its badly optimised and controls are shit i cant play it no matter how awesome it looks or how good the story is (Kingdom Come:Deliverance) but, better performance = improved graphics in most cases soooo :D
