I just started getting back into RDR2, I am planning on getting through the main story before getting into the online game, any advice, or is it better to just get into online?

I was a member years ago while in college and kind of fell off the gaming wagon, due to wife and kids. I've picked up Diablo 3 again, really getting ready for 4 to come out.
