SWBF vs BLOPS3

Postby Toledo » Tue Nov 24, 2015 10:11 pm

Is this worth getting? I was having trouble deciding between this and Blops3. I went with blops 3 and have prestiged and am already halfway to prestiging a second time. I am starting to get bored with it like I usually do around the second prestige. I did not purchase the season pass as there was always consideration of me purchasing battlefront.

For those who played both blops3 and SWBF, what are your opinions. Which has more longevity? I am a Star Wars nerd at heart and the graphics are AMAZING. I just wonder how much EA will milk us in the long run.

Inform me Gunslingers!

As you know I'm a n00b so I basically got 'em both to learn how to play with a controller until Doom Mothafuckin 4 arrives.
Now I have to mention Doom 4 again in another sentence because they are bringing Doom Snapmap, which, if IIRC from the E3 presentation, is gonna be the way for players to easily add new content to the multiplayer experience, like back in the day with UT, Quake 3 and all the classic shit from last decade(s), before the CoD squeakers were even conceived. And that's how I think a multiplayer FPS should roll.
But like you say, CoD or for than instance Battlefront, gets old real quick.

CoD, I've played all maps already, so I'm wearing out. I'll still play till I reach Prestige 1 (rank 30 currently), but not sure if I'll be playing after a Prestige 3 (which will take a while anyway).
Same happens with Battlefront. It's amazing, graphics are pretty good and I've had a great experience, but there are only 4 planets, so every map is based around those. I mentioned once I wasn't thinking of getting Battlefront until I saw the launch trailer, and Endor. It's the best planet for me, even if some people hate the fact the camouflage on the Imperial side is not the best. We're getting Jakku for free in december (which for me is basically gonna be the same as Tatooine) so that makes it 5 planets.

Some of the game modes are great like Walker Assault, where there are up to 40 players so it can be either a slaughter fest for the veterans or a respawn inferno for the average player like myself.
On the weapon side, it seems there is not much to unlock once you reach level 50 which is the max rank (don't know if you keep on ranking after that but that's the limit to be ABLE to get it all, if you have the in-game currency to do so). So basically the starting weapons are good enough for everyone, unlike maybe CoD were you apparently get some really cool ones when getting close to rank 55. Asides from shadow stormtrooper or some other characters that you can unlock, there is not really much to "look forward to", in my humble opinion. So basically around level 13 (which is when you unlock the Jump Pack) you already have access to some of the best arsenal the game has to offer.

Then there is heroes. In the beta I wasn't able to become any, but they fixed the whole "power up spawn" and now I've been able to become a couple heroes and a couple villains when playing some of the game modes, so that's cool, because I was afraid I wouldn't stand a chance to get any. I've also been many ships or controlled the AT-AT or became an AT-ST, so that's pretty cool. Also, there is a game mode where you start as a hero (randomly picked by the game, I assume the guy with best K/D because that's how games work) and the person who kills you, becomes the next hero and so on. So it's pretty cool I guess. But there is also heroes vs villains which is by far my favourite game mode. It's only 12-players IIRC, but basically on one side 3 players at random get to be the heroes and then on the other side, 3 people get picked as villains. The side that kills them 3 first wins. It's a great chance to test the heroes and villains and learn how to properly play with them.

Then there is also the ship fight game mode where Imperial ships compete against the Rebel ships and obviously you get the chance to pick up a power up to become Slave-I or the Millennium falcon.

So all in all I think in the long run, for a star wars fan, Battlefront *might* be the one with most longevity.
From what I've experienced in all the main game modes in CoD, it's basically Team Deathmath, Domination, Kill Confirmed (which for me feels like TD with a little spice to it), Escort Chappie and that's it. Then escorting chappie is not that great and domination gets old when people just start killing each other instead of actually well, dominating the points (I've had teammates next to me when I'm trying to dominate and they won't even get close to you know, actually get control of the point faster!!???!!!! Yeeeezzzzz). So I assume for me in the long run it will be TD and KC back and forth I guess.
On the other side, on Battlefront when playing the huge game mode (Walker Assault), you get the feeling people actually work together for either shooting the walkers when the chance arrives or avoiding that chance, depending on which side you're on (rebels/imperials). So I'm guessing that one's gonna last. Then you can relax and play some ships TD, or go for heroes vs villains or go for control the pod which is like domination but with only 1 pod at a time and they keep on respawning until you get to dominate 5 (but there is also a game mode which is domination but with Gonks).
So i don't know, I think Battlefront even if it's gonna get old for me as well, may be the winner between the two. I'm not considering DLC for any btw. I don't do DLCs or Season Passes anymore after the Watch_Dogs fiasco.

After reading your reply Psych, I think im leaning towards agreeing with you. I have been reading up on fallout 4 and heard that is kind of a let down to some but others love it. Kind of mixed reviews about the entire thing. What I want is a SW KOTOR 3 to come out on consoles and then I will be happy as pie.

For me, SWBF is the best looking and sounding shooter I've played in a long time. The sound and music alone does it for me.
As I've gotten older, I'm outgrowing fps games and leaning more towards sp and co-op mp, but I love Star Wars and so I'm happy with this game.

If it wasn't Star Wars, I probably wouldn't even give a second glance.

If you are a huge Star Wars fan, I think you'll enjoy SWBF.

I agree with everything Gaz Bot said. My main concern with SWBF is the lack of maps, but it appears EA will be addressing this going forward and at least partially for free! Never thought I'd use "EA" and "free" in the same sentence.

I own both, so the fact that its battlefront I'm playing every night tells me where my vote goes. playing some 10 v 10 tdm last night I realized that it is just as fast paced as cod, but much more fun. i'll definitely get the season pass. unlike cod's every year grind ea gets much more mileage out of their top titles. I'd rather invest 50 in it rather than buy another game that I won't enjoy as much.

I think coolhandlewke hit the nail on the head. BF4 is over two years old now and the servers are still well populated. Plus, you can get SWBF and still play an older CoD game you already own if there are any times when you're really jonesing for the specific "CoD feel." However, I doubt you will want to play any other shooter for a while if you get SWBF.

I have only played 2 matches of BO3. My only impression of it was: Its not as good as AW.

Now as for SWBF vs Halo Im pleased to say its pretty easy to go back and fourth because they are so different. I almost cannot even say which is better. Halo is uber-competitive and fast paced. Star Wars is much slower and seems more casual, so its a nice break from Halo. Star Wars is nice with the variety of modes. I do love Halo 5, but I do not like Warzone or BTB so it seems like theres 1 mode and its 4v4.

I agree that KOTOR 3 would be the best case scenario for a SW game. We can only dream! But SWBF does have a great Star Wars feel. If it were a generic shooter without the Star Wars theme it would be nothing special.

Sorry, I haven't really played COD since Black Ops 2, after that I started playing BF3 and never really looked back at the COD series, so I may not be the best help. Just from reading and my experience with prior COD games, I think the advantages that BLOPS3 would have would be the campaign if you like the SP and Zombies, but other than that, I think Battlefront offers more when it comes to multiplayer. If you want to play the small COD style maps, you have that option, or you can play the bigger map style games like Walker Assault and Supremacy and you have the option to just fly ships in fighter squadron. I just feel that the game options in Battlefront offer more than what you get in BLOPs3 - besides, I always preferred having the option to jump in the vehicle and drive vs, just calling in the kill streak, and what Star Wars fan doesn't want to fly/pilot an x-wing or tie fighter or take control of an AT-ST or work the canons of an AT-AT, or run around playing as a hero or villain.

Again, my take is slightly biased here as I became burnt out to COD, got tired of the small maps, campers and other issues related to COD. Now don't get me wrong, Battlefront is in no way a perfect game either, especially as a FPS where aiming down sights offers you no advantage and third person view is actually more beneficial to you. I think this is the biggest issue that I have with the game, as I was looking forward to the Battlefield series with a star wars skin, a true FPS but that is not what we have. Also, one more advantage that I see so far for Battlefront is if you played BF3 on the PS3 or BF4 on the PS4, it seems like the majority of the old Battlefield crew has made their way over to Battlefront, hopefully they will stick around.
