Your Favorite Horror Movies and Television Shows

It is Halloween (depending on when you read this, of course)! I am not someone with a library full of nothing but horror films, but I sure like to watch great examples of that genre around this time of the year.

How about you? What are you favorite horror films?

Personally, I am bit of a black-and-white horror film nut, so some of my favorites of all time are Night of the Living Dead, The Brain That Wouldn't Die, and the flawless masterpiece that is Hitchcock's Psycho.

Not that all my favorites are in black and white. The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre may be one of the scariest films I have seen, and I have a great appreciation of more recent efforts such as the first Blair Witch Project, The Descent, and Rob Zombie's House of 1,000 Corpses.

Of the television fair, such macabre productions like the first run of the Twilight Zone and Outer Limits are still watched late at night on local channels. I was also a huge fan (read: nerd) of the X-Files.

That said, one of the creepest things to ever be shown on television on a weekly basis was the introduction of Unsolved Mysteries:

The Brain That Wouldn't Die is most definitely a classic as well as the first few Jason movies.

The original versions of George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, and Tobe Hooper's the Texas Chainsaw Massacre were all brilliant.

And I agree with McMurphy that Rob Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses deserves recognition. I hated the Devil's Rejects (though it had its moments), but House of 1000 Corpses blew me away, in part because I had never been of Rob Zombie and thought his persona was over-the-top and cheesy. I went to see the movie expecting to laugh, but it became quickly apparent that he was a genuine fan of 70s American horror and knew what he was doing.

I'm giving this topic a ever friendly bump for the Halloween season! :jackolantern:

Another of my all time horror favorites is the original Alien movie. The movie has such patience before letting the creepy take over.

Movie that had me the most scared would be the excorcist. I thought that emily rose movie was pretty good too. Ringu (original japanese version of the ring) I would recommend

Gotta agree with IT. For a movie that was made strictly for television, it's definitely a freaky film. Movies like this and Poltergeist are the reason I hate clowns. Another one that I really enjoy for halloween that just came out recently is Trick R Treat. It's kinda like a tales from the crypt for halloween.
