Favorite Horror Movies

Postby rogueskaboss » Sat Sep 24, 2016 6:05 pm

My wife and I got married on Halloween, we love the horror genre. I was just wondering what some other people's favorite horror films are!

A movie that scares me despite it's comedy and cheapness is the 'IT' movie. As an adult Tim Curry is great and hilarious. At the age of 5 it instilled deep fear in me of storm drains and shower drains. My mom lovingly takes the blame lol.

There's so many horror movies there really is something for anyone. I could go on forever about horror lol, what are somebody you guys like? Phantasm? Poltergeist? Bride of Frankenstein? There are no wrong answers!

Oh man, I could go on forever about horror. Child of the 80s. Definitely the best decade for horror.

Favourites are:

Hellraiser
Night of the Living Dead
The Serpent and the Rainbow (true story about zombies)
The Thing
Evil Dead 1 and 2

There's lots more, but that would take up a hundred pages.

Phantasm, dude, what a classic!!!

I'm with you guys being a kid in the 80's horror was a staple, my grandma prob shouldnt have let me watch half of those movies! I loved the Friday series and of course Nightmare and Halloween. One of my faves as a kid was Blood Diner. I got the wife to watch that when we first got together, hated it lol!

Other faves are Evil Dead, and the new series on Starz is pretty damn good too. And Freddy VS Jason was a childhood dream come true, the final fight scene was epic!

But later movies I consider some of the best:

The Ring, that movie scared the shit out of me!

Saw. The twist at the end has to be one of the best ever! Shame that turned into the gore porn genre.

Blair Witch. A divisive choice. But at the time the "found footage" really hit for me. Actually pumped to see the new one.

The 1st of the newest Texas Chainsaw reboot was very good.

After Hostel and the Saw sequels I started to lose my stomach for it as the genre turned nasty for the sake of being nasty. I couldnt even bring myself to watch Human Centipede. The genre as a whole has suffered since, but I feel like its making a bit of a comeback.

I could go on all day also, and Ive forgotten more movies than I prob remember.

Haha my wife and I got to see the Phantasm remaster back in Austust and Flashback weekend in Chicago. It looked so good and sounded even better! The copy we own is on DVD, definitely buying the Bluray when it come and out.

I liked the Hostel movies, thought the second was a lot better though and the Saw movies are a once a year marathon haha. A staple in our house is the final Destination series. So rediculous but so much fun!

We started watching some of the random horror movies on Netflix. The Invitation was good. Creep was really fun too haha.

I love space sci-fi/survival horror or similar themes. Usually has to do with a stranded ship in space, sea, snow and may or may not include a creature lol. Some may even fall on the side of action.

Event Horizon
Aliens 1986
Pandorum
Pitch Black
The Thing
Deep Rising
Dead Space: Downfall/Aftermath
Doom - even though it could've been sooo much better. I still liked the theme.

Not so spacey:
It's Alive Trilogy <--- Corny to watch now but this one really freaked me out as a kid. Click here for more demon baby movies
Would You Rather
Let the Right One In

And just gonna throw this one in as its a fun one:
Tucker and Dale vs. Evil

Like Dunk said, could go on and on.

I love reading other people's horror movie lists haha reminds me of what to rewatch or hunt down. I need to rewatch Tucker and Dale versus Evil.

Has anyone else watched What We Do In the Shadows?

We tried watching last years season of Sleepy Hollow because we liked the first couple seasons but it's terrible now and all the main actors are leaving. Grimm, on the other hand keeps my attention haha. Not quite as campy as Supernatural (which I'm a sucker for) but the mythology they use has been pretty good.

It is interesting to see what people like. It kind of gives an insight to some people's personalities. At least I like to think so.

I've been a fan of American Horror Story since it started. Not watching the new season though until it's finished. I hate watching any series and having to wait a week until the next show.

Though I'm not a fan of much of the new horror coming out (it seems like it's all remakes now and none of it has the edge the 70s and 80s had) I did enjoy Mama and Cabin in the Woods. And of course for Halloween there's Trick r Treat.

I'm also a huuuuuge fan of the old EC comics like Tales from The Crypt, Vault of Horror, and The Haunt of Fear. Loved the TV show based on it back in the early 90s and absolutely loved the Romero/King homage to those old comics, Creepshow and Creepshow 2. Father's Day in the first one and The Hitchiker in the second still give me the heebie jeebies.

And then of course there's Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland. Brilliant movies and really a breath of fresh air in this era of remakes and shock value cinema.

The wife and I are expanding our horror collection so I think we'll be trying to hunt down some comics here soon.

We've been revisiting Are You Afraid of the Dark? This past week. So '90s haha but fun and nastalgic.
