The Forgotten Franchises

Do you recall all the wasted hours on the games and consoles of the past? Everything from the first Playstation and the Nintendo 64 to the NES and the Dreamcast is fair "game" here.

Please forgive the lame pun.

I'm not sure this counts as a franchise (was there ever a second game? I don't remember) but I've been thinking about Vigilante 8. It would probably be rubbish now, but it was great fun at the time.

I had to open my big mouth. A couple of weeks later, the Syndicate FPS is announced. Sigh.

Holy hell, how did I forget this? I spent so much time with this as a teenager. The PS1 game 'The Beginning' just wasn't the same. Now the franchise seems to languish, forgotten.

I present Populous 2: Trials of the Olympian Gods

This intro was epic at the time. I still like the music.

I don't know if anybody has mentioned these so far, but what about:

- Battletoads?
- Double Dragon?
- Vectorman?
- Return Fire?
- Primal Rage?
- Phantasy Star?

I would gladly play any of these games over again in HD!

Based on this thread, I am going to love this community! :P

STRIDER! Also, Battletoads, Out of this World, and Shadowrun (based on the PnP game).

Going waaaay back with this one... Turrican on the C64. Always liked those games. It did make it as far as the SNES, but don't think it went anywhere after that.

Have to agree with Battletoads and ToeJam and Earl! I'd say Contra as well.. we did kind of get a new addition on Wii Virtual Console, but it was far to short.

Also a few of my PC games: Lords of the Realm and Warcraft -no, not World of Warcraft but the original RTS series.

Speaking of Contra... Why not something similar to that game?

Metal Slug!? It's been some time now since the last numbered game (7/XX I think...)

DO IT, SNK!

How this thread went 2 pages without the mention of Shinobi. Revenge of Shinobi is one of the greatest games ever made
