The One Where Minecraft takes over my gaming life...

Well, it's raining today here at work. When you work at a golf course, that means it's SLOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW....
Painfully slow.

It's especially painful in light of my recent delving into Minecraft, which has sunk its' hooks deep into me.

It all started innocently enough... I had bought my niece a copy of the game for 360 and watched her play a bit on creative here and there. It all seemed somewhat interesting, but didn't really spark any desire to play. Well, she lives a couple hours away, but was coming to visit. I saw that it was on sale for $5 on the Xbox One, and figured I may as well pick it up so we could tool around while she was down.

Not wanting to be a complete n00b in front of my 7 year old niece, I made myself sit down and fire up a survival mode to familiarize myself with the game.

Everything was sun light and wood punching! Then, it began to dim, though I really didn't think much of it.

Soon, however, it was dark. I couldn't see. There were strange sounds coming from the forest. From all around me. Then, there it was. Only a momentary glimpse of green and a slight hiss. Death.

I respawned in a dark plain, with no idea where I had just met my doom. All my punched wood, gone, with only my bloody knuckles to show for it.

NEVER AGAIN, I swore. No green block monster thingy was ever going to make me lose my hard earned lo.... hissss.... BOOM!

And just like that, I was hooked!

Now, I have a pretty sweet survival map on my Xbox One with a couple decent castle builds and some redstone machines here and there. I've unlocked most achievements and am stocking up to take down the Ender Dragon. I bought the PC version and am amazed at the variety of mods and textures... although having to remember crafting recipes bites.

All in all, things are good.... besides being stuck here at work on a rainy day!

And I still die from creepers. On a daily basis. Usually with pockets full of diamonds while standing next to a lake of lave.
