The One Where I Remember Molten Core.

Permanent Linkby Handil on Wed Dec 10, 2014 9:41 am

I played vanilla WoW. I was hard core. I was elite. I was the best damn tank on my server. I main tanked Onyxia for the server first kill. I main tanked Molten Core for the first Ragnaros kill. I was second on my server to have a full set of Tier 1 gear (my off tank being the first).

For those of you who didn't play WoW at the time, here is how the inital Molten Core raids went....

Gather 40 players who are willing to spend 6-8 hours a day, 3 days a week raiding. Organize them into group which make sense and can support each other. Begin raid.

Step inside to see two giants. Pull giants. Die. All 40 of you. Reset.
**hours pass**
We did it!

Pull second set of mobs.

You get the idea.

It was literally weeks (months?) before I got a single piece of raid gear, and it was a shitty belt. Actually it was awesome compared to the belt I had, but it was still a belt.

There was no cheesing it. If an exploit was found, it was patched within HOURS. No one had raid gear and didn't know the boss fight. And there was 40 of us! 40 plus all the people in the wings waiting to sub in.

Now to today in Destiny. People literally quit the game because they didn't have a full set of raid gear within the first two weeks. People are quitting because the gear they did get is now obsolete. People who stay cry and bitch and moan after every boss take down in VoG because they didn't get that one last piece of gear they need. I get it, it sucks sometimes. But damn, you guys would have never made it though MC.

I remember those days, so much fun. I haven't been able to play the elite raids in WoW in the recent versions, so I wonder how those compare to the olden Molten Core days. I started playing WoW in beta, it was such a good game back then, even though I played a warrior and man were they gimped back then (they were OP in beta, so Blizzard patched them away for release).

If you think that was bad, go back to Everquest where wiping required everyone to get back to where they died and recover their corpse, while naked. So much streaking. ;)
